It’s not every day that you are asked to design a circular floor plan at The Gherkin in London
The Client Brief
Prudential Bache Commodities was a global financial services firm specialising in brokerage and clearing services. The firm was sold to Jefferies & Company, Inc. later on, in April 2011, and was renamed Jefferies Bache.
Prudential Bache Commodities called us to complete a feasibility study complete with concept design and furniture specification. We were excited to jump in. The purpose of the study was to help get a better grasp of the cost process for moving and to find out how the company could populate this famous landmark building and its unusual circular floor plan. The design brief mentioned a new kitchen / break-out area, reception & waiting area, boardroom, training room, HR office, management offices, trading floors, Directors’ and CEO offices, new toilets and shower rooms.
Space share by two different companies
There were two floors involved: the 25th and 26th floors. The client was going to share the 26th floor space with another company. Our first design was about creating a dividing fire rated corridor wall, with entrances leading into the main lift lobby area. We had to focus on separating and segregating the 26th floor.
A beautiful finish
We proudly created all the concept designs to suit the unique floor plan. We promoted a contemporary and functional look, with good quality furniture. We also thought it best to maximise the available natural light.
